Literature Analysis (FICTION) - The People Of Sparks by Jeanne Duprau

1. The people of Sparks welcome the people of Ember into their city. The people of Ember are proved with settler and food in exchange for labor. For the first couple of months, all is well with this arrangement until the people of Sparks grow tired of helping the people of Ember. All goes into chaos when the people of Ember learn of the Sparks plan to kick them out but is ruined by one Sparks leaders. The people of Sparks are worried their leaders are committing the same mistakes their ancestors did which could bring everyone to their doom once again.

2. The theme of the story is doing good is hard especially when everyone around you is doing bad. It's very simple to do act bad, but tougher to act good.

3. Based on the author's tone I feel like she gets up really early even though she hates, but wants to also get her priorities done as well. She wakes up moody, but black coffee gets her moving every time. She is very careless about the way she presents herself to other people but is very picky about the work she does. She never wants to be in place because her mind is always thinking so I image her always traveling. She seems to enjoy gardening on some days, but can easily hate it the next day. Any type of hard labor will make her very upset at some point. Her eating habits are excellent at the beginning of the month get worse as the weeks go by. She only eats organic food or food that comes from local farms. She is very creative with everything she does.

4. Myth - The story talks about people who lived underground for years with electricity, food, and supplies, but of out of nowhere come out to light without any knowledge of the outside world.

Allusion - From the very beginning, the people of Ember make the City of Sparks their new home. They begin to remodel the hotel there living in, create a meeting area, and begin new projects almost every week. They make themselves at home and create new relationships with the new people, so it was easy to notice that they weren't gonna ever leave Sparks to start their own city.

Symbolism - At the of the story, Doon finds a way to create electricity. The lightbulb is brought out a lot through the story, but that conversation is always cut short with " That doesn't exist anymore". Finally having an unused lightbulb at the end of this story shows that there's is light for both the people of Sparks and Ember. It symbolism what will now begin to exist again.

Denotation - The people of Sparks call the people of Ember cavepeople as an insult. There only called this because of conflicts that occurred between the people.

Flashback - One of the main characters Lina has a flashback when she is drawing. She remembered coloring the sky blue even though she never actually seen the color of the sky. She has many flashbacks about what she imagined a city looked like and it turned out to be true.
