My Essay Essay

Hawthorne demonstrates his theme in the story which is evil, and how it can corrupt humans. Since we're humans we sin so, in reality, we can't be perfect. Were as Goodman Brown thought that people shouldn't be sinning. However, he was blinded by his faith and trust for everyone around him.

Symbolism is used to communicate Hawthorne's theme. Faith's pink ribbons and the old man's staff are forms of symbolism in this short story. Faith's pink ribbons symbolize her innocence and purity. Goodman believes he heard Faith's voice in the forest but isn't positive it was her because he had faith. That is soon crushed when he sees her pink ribbon flying through the sky. Now Goodman is sure that Faith has fallen. Her innocence is no longer there and Goodman now loses his faith in her. The staff is the second form of symbolism used. It's supposed to be something Goodman could utilize to travel faster through the forest. The staff is in the form of a serpent and appears to be moving so Goodman wanted nothing to do with at first. However, Goodman is human and the temptation gets the better of him. The old man, who really is the devil showed that even Goodman could have a weakness. Faith was the one who was corrupted by evil even though she seemed to be the purist in Goodman's eyes.

Another way Hawthorne communicates his theme is through foreshadowing. Goodman shows examples of foreshadowing at the beginning of the story. When Goodman is first leaving he says        " There was trouble in her face, as if a dream had warned her what work is to be done to-night".  This tells us that something bad was gonna happen in the woods during Goodman's walk. Another form of foreshadowing occurs when Goodman says " What if the devil himself should be at my elbow". Here we can imagine how close evil was to Goodman because right after an old man appears in the woods. All foreshowing happens to point towards darkness.

The Final way Hawthorne communicates his theme throughout the story is characterization. Goodman, Faith, and the Old Man are the main characters that are characterized in the story. Goodman is characterized as a good Christain who is just recently married to his wife Faith. Goodman is proud to part of a family that has a history of godly men and is offended when the old man tells him of his father's sins. However on his walk through the forest, his curiosity gets the best of him and observers a devil's ceremony. Faith is characterized as an innocent, pure, trusting, and beautiful girl. Faith, in the story, then turns out to be the one who is being welcomed into the devil's ceremony. The person whos is characterized as the purest in Goodman's eyes ends up being a complete opposite. The Old Man is characterized as a regular person, even though he's really the devil in disguise. In a story, you would think an old man would be innocent as well. The Old Man does prides himself over the godly men who he has been able to turn to evil including relatives from Goodman. The devil has a way you trick you into getting close to evil.

The fight between good and evil is shown in this story. Symbolizes foreshadowing, and characterization are ways that are used to communicate the theme. Hawthorne's allegory is used to show how our beliefs will be tested.

My Thesis Statment

  • To acknowledge how evil is present and how it can corrupt the presence of humans.
I feel like its easier to reflet on Young Goodman Brown when there's a prompt because we have something to connect our ideas to so we can try an make more sense out of what we're reading.

Read Talk Understand

I don't read differently when an author is a room because I like to read at my own pace to get a better understanding of what I'm reading. It helps when the author reads because he or she stops and explains important points about there writing. You can also ask questions right then an there. You can discuss text different because you can get the real response to your question from the author. While when you discuss with a group or class sometimes the meaning of a text can be interpreted wrong. I don't think that I really learned anything from talking. I feel I like I  learn better when I read in silent and then write down notes.

Young Old Good Bad

I think Hawthrone wrote Young Goodman Brown because he wanted to show the two sides of life and how you can be deceived by it. The people who around you cant always be trusted and in this case your wife as well.
I think Stefan King was so affected by this story because it shows how evil will test your beliefs and try to make you submit to what is clearly wrong.
Our imagination has no limits. It literary has a mind of its own
We really sometimes don't know people. Since we are humans we can sometimes keep things to our self. We can ealsy put on a face a deceive people easily, but some people aren't easily deceived.

Young Goodman Brown - Questions

1. I think Hawthorne's Purpose for writing this story was to show how everything in life has two sides. Theres the good and the evil in life.

 2. No, I don't agree that Young Goodman Brown's wife is aptly named Faith. Faith's name doesn't fit her personality because she is supposed to represent some thing that it is pure, but that changes when goodman brown finds her at a party thats evil. No brown doesn't have true faith in her.

3.  I think the pink ribbons signify how innocent faith really is. The color pink is usually adored by young girls who are innocent because they haven't experienced any time of evil temptation.

4. I feel like everything Brown wittness was real. Since Faith was present at one of the events I feel like that proves that this wasn't a figment of browns imagination.

5. I think the old man is really the devil.

6. The staff reprsent evil. I think Brown is the primary movtiar. His on conscience leads him forward.

7. If brown had not ventured into the forest brown would still have been at home with Faith without thinking twice about her or the townspeople. If brown would have stayed home he would have Faith. He would also still trust his wife and his fellowe townpeople.

Literature Analysis (FICTION) - The People Of Sparks by Jeanne Duprau

1. The people of Sparks welcome the people of Ember into their city. The people of Ember are proved with settler and food in exchange for labor. For the first couple of months, all is well with this arrangement until the people of Sparks grow tired of helping the people of Ember. All goes into chaos when the people of Ember learn of the Sparks plan to kick them out but is ruined by one Sparks leaders. The people of Sparks are worried their leaders are committing the same mistakes their ancestors did which could bring everyone to their doom once again.

2. The theme of the story is doing good is hard especially when everyone around you is doing bad. It's very simple to do act bad, but tougher to act good.

3. Based on the author's tone I feel like she gets up really early even though she hates, but wants to also get her priorities done as well. She wakes up moody, but black coffee gets her moving every time. She is very careless about the way she presents herself to other people but is very picky about the work she does. She never wants to be in place because her mind is always thinking so I image her always traveling. She seems to enjoy gardening on some days, but can easily hate it the next day. Any type of hard labor will make her very upset at some point. Her eating habits are excellent at the beginning of the month get worse as the weeks go by. She only eats organic food or food that comes from local farms. She is very creative with everything she does.

4. Myth - The story talks about people who lived underground for years with electricity, food, and supplies, but of out of nowhere come out to light without any knowledge of the outside world.

Allusion - From the very beginning, the people of Ember make the City of Sparks their new home. They begin to remodel the hotel there living in, create a meeting area, and begin new projects almost every week. They make themselves at home and create new relationships with the new people, so it was easy to notice that they weren't gonna ever leave Sparks to start their own city.

Symbolism - At the of the story, Doon finds a way to create electricity. The lightbulb is brought out a lot through the story, but that conversation is always cut short with " That doesn't exist anymore". Finally having an unused lightbulb at the end of this story shows that there's is light for both the people of Sparks and Ember. It symbolism what will now begin to exist again.

Denotation - The people of Sparks call the people of Ember cavepeople as an insult. There only called this because of conflicts that occurred between the people.

Flashback - One of the main characters Lina has a flashback when she is drawing. She remembered coloring the sky blue even though she never actually seen the color of the sky. She has many flashbacks about what she imagined a city looked like and it turned out to be true.

SO THIS GUY GOES FOR A WALK

Goodman Brown seems happily married to his wife Faith.
I understand why faith is kinda on the edge to let her husband off on his own since they only been married for three months. Faith seems like a very understanding wife.
I feel like Goodman Brown ventures off into the forest with a traveler because he is unhappy.
Goodman Brown going for a walk turns into an adventure.

NOW I REMEMBER

When you first read something for the first time, that information you just read most likely isn't memorized right away.
Rereading and taking notes helps a lot when it comes to memorizing.
I personly use the chunking method when I memorizing anything.
Even reciting out loud to yourself or with a friend helps.
I make my younger sister hear me recite my poems to get feedback on what I can improve on or if I missed pronounced any words or missed words.
I personally don't like rewriting one thing over and over again, but it works for some people so I would also give that a try.

HOW I READ

I remember the first chapter book read, I was in the first grade.  I read a Junie B Jones book that took me about a week to read. Then in the third grade, I decided to reread that same book and was able to read it under an hour.
I feel like I enjoyed reading more up to the sixth grade. I decided to pick up reading again because of my eighth-grade teacher's amazing taste in books. She even got me to join the battle of the books team. I read 15 out of the 25 books on the list in under two months. I was so proud of myself, but that excitement died my freshman and sophomore years during my English clases.
I find myself enjoying romance novels a lot lately even though I forgot the name of the authors quickly. I hate books that involve horror but do enjoy some mystery books. I also enjoy books about vampires or werewolves even though lots of people categorized them as lam books.

THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE

The transmitter sends feedback to a receiver. The medium is the channel message between the transmitter and the receiver.

The ancient Greeks used the method of Techne.  WIFI is only 2o years old, but Techne is as old as humanity. It's the basic model of communication. Technology doesn't refer to what is on your desk but home you use it.
The channel which we communicate heavily influences what we receive.
At school were all bombarded with NOISE.

MEDIUM - COMMUNICATION CHANNEL= PURAL IS MEDIA

We choose the channels of communication without thinking about the receivers.
It's best to have a person to person conversation to make yourself understood correctly.

Email is a great example of this.
Its the faster version of an old fashion way of sending letters.
When it comes to an email grammer in your sentences are extremely important.
It's also a good idea to change your password every 30 and use 2 step logins.

TRAIN YOUR BRAIN LIKE A MEMORY CHAMPION

  • Trying to apply the strategies that memory athletes use in real-world scenarios
The visual part is the most important when training like a memory champ. Mnemonics is a way to help improve your memory. I do agree with Dr. Reggentte that " Visual Mnemonics works best ".The trick to memorizing a name is focus. When trying to memorize a new name its best to use a particle trait from that person. Hair color, eye color or hair length or good examples for this method. The easiest way to remember numbers is by chunking. I realized that I have been using this method for a while now. I used it memorize poems and speeches so it doesn't just work for numbers in my opinion.

FOR THE WIN

I feel like I did extremely well in recording my two poems. The two were Richard Cory and The Laughing Heart. It was fun to reread the poem The Laughing Heart since I had already memorized it for my 8th-grade honors English class. I feel proud that I figured out a way to memorize poems in under 25 minutes. It took me forever to find a few minutes of peace and quiet in my home on a weekend to record my poems so I felt accomplished once I  got the final video done.

TODAY I WAS THINKING

Has anybody been given advice on how to focus or pay attention?
Taking a moment out of your day to breath and remember what you're really there for can have huge benefits. Rubbing your index finger with your thumb or moving your toes in your shoes to know that you there. Know where your present at that exact moment with mindfulness. Finding ways to concentrate and block all your surroundings out to become the best you. Having goals set for yourself. Most successful set goals from themselves for the week, month, or even year. Putting all your effort to be the best accomplished you is what matters the most.

I CAN ABOUT YOUR UNDERSTAND

Having to babysit after school is a huge pain. Coming home to a house of screaming toddlers is extremely annoying. Even though at the same time the house feels empty and lonely without them. It's rare in my household to have peace in quit. I guess over the years I adapted to it. It's even worse when all the adults decide to scream like toddlers. Sometimes I get the urge to scream, but at the same time, don't want to be heard. I learned in my house it's better to stay out of things unless you want to listen to lectures that don't make sense with the situation going on.

I wasn't able to get feedback on my writing from others. I feel like I carefully choose the words in my writing.  I was clearing able to express how I feel about babysitting and the stress it comes with.

The Laughing Heart by Charles Bukowski

Getting to know you

It's important to know the people around you. This way you can make new friends or even discover a new interest from other peoples hobbies. Sometimes you can even figure out who are the people your comfortable working or being around with. I do use this method when I'm in a class with people I don't know. It's also very cool learning something new from a person. Knowing the people are will always benefit you in the long run.

First 50 pages - The PEOPLE of SPARKS

Lina and Doon manage to find the way out of the City of Ember. Once out Lina and Doon wrote a message to the people of the city along with the directions to the way out.  400 people were able to escape, but many were left behind because the underground city was now pitched black. The mayor of Ember died while trying to escape with his valuable belongings without helping his people escape with him. Many people of Ember drowned in the river or were trampled because of so many people trying to leave at once. All 400 people ended up arriving at a village called sparks after a 2 day's walk from Ember. The people of sparks are concerned that there lying because they never heard about the underground city. The three leaders do offer there help and provied them with some shelter with food and water. The  3 leaders of Sparks meet and agree on helping the people of Ember for 6 months and try to teach them everything they can to help them survive on there own. The leaders of Sparks want to help more, but don't want to go back to when their village was in ruins because of horrible leaders. Their village had just again begun to prosper.

MY BIG QUESTION

Why do regular size tomatoes taste different from cherry tomatoes?
I love tomatoes so much, but the only ones I will not eat are the cherry tomatoes. They have an odd taste that makes me always spit them out. I tried eating them so many times, but I can't get myself to enjoy them. I especially love tomatoes with lime and salt, but even with that cherry tomatoes taste disgusting to me. I just can't understand why they taste different from regular tomatoes.
