Analyze- Break it down into components.
Diction - Collection of words an author uses.
Syntax- The way an author arranges words.
Tone- The author's attitude towards the audience, topic, or characters.
Diction and Syntax are not arguable
The author uses the words damn, smart ass, and apathetic as words of diction to show that he can connect with both his younger and older audience. He uses the words criminal and there all alike in repetition throughout his writing to make a point.
The author changes his tone in his writing when he is writing about the teachers and changes it again when he is writing to the audience.
